A Fly Fisherman’s Perspective

A Fly Fisherman’s Perspective

A wise fisherman once told me to document everything I could about the river, from the insects that were hatching, to the water temperature that triggered the hatch. He said it would make me a better fly fisherman. He was right! Though I can’t remember the gentlemen’s name who gave me this advice, I’m glad he did. It has changed the way I approach the river, and more importantly, it has helped me catch more trout.

Trout Journal is a culmination of the countless hours I’ve spent on the water observing and listening to what the river has to say. It’s a series of stories and commentaries about my fly fishing experiences as well as a collection of the practical strategies and techniques I’ve learned over the years. Many of these discoveries have come from my successes, even more from my failures.

Funny, the trout don’t seem to mind my determination to try and figure them out. In fact I think they are amused by my persistence. That’s the only explanation as to why they continually allow themselves to be caught just often enough to keep me coming back.
